Another funny slice of life novel by Sophie Kinsella

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel

By: Sophie Kinsella

Rating: 5 of 5

mynotsoperfectlifeI’ve read almost all of Sophie Kinsella’s books. I enjoy both her style of writing (oh, so funny) and the messages she manages to convey through her plots.

In “My Not So Perfect Life”, Katie/Cat Brenner is struggling to get her life on track. She’s abandoned the family farm to move to London (her dream city) to work in marketing (her dream career.) She’s Katie at home and a newly created persona, Cat, in London. The reality isn’t quite so great and she spends a good deal of time thinking that those around her have perfect lives.

Another fantastic crochet resource book by Edie Eckman

Every Which Way Crochet Borders: 139 Patterns for Customized Edgings

By: Edie Eckman

Rating: 5 of 5

crochetbordersI’ve purchased a number of crochet books by Edie Eckman over the years. Her work is so well done and so informative that if I see she has a new book, I immediately pre-order it. I keep most of her books within arm’s reach from my crochet “nook” where I do most of my projects. If I have a question, it is sure that I will find an answer in that set of books.

Engrossing Thriller with surprise ending

The Girl Before: A Novel

By: JP Delaney

Rating: 5 of 5

thegirlbeforeThis is the first book this author has written under this name (JP Delaney). I would certainly like to know the author’s other names as I so enjoyed this book, I would certainly seek out and read his/her other works.

The story is an alternating point of view between two youngish women. What they have in common is the unusual modern house that they rent (at different times.) The story is told in tandem of events rather than in time. Each woman’s personality unfolds as the story moves along.

Great second book in series of art mysteries

Marked Masters (A Bodies of Art Mystery Book 2)

By: Ritter Ames

Rating: 5 of 5

markedmastersThis is the second book in this series. I have read both and found that Marked Masters as an excellent second in series. I liked that the pace picked up, which makes sense as we now have the background on these characters so more writing to given over to action.

The story picks up where the last one left off. I do suggest reading these books in order as there is a cross over of plot lines that makes more sense if you have the background of the first book.

Great first in a murder mystery series with a ghostwriting sleuth

Ghostwriter Anonymous (A Jake O’Hara Mystery) (Volume 1)

By: Noreen Wald

Rating: 5 of 5

ghostwriteranonymousThis is the first book I have read by Noreen Wald and it is also the first book in her Jake O’Hara murder mystery series.

In the book, Jake O’Hara is a ghostwriter who is just finishing up her last gig. When she is invited to ghostwrite the next book by the renowned cozy murder mystery writer, she is shocked to find out the author has not written her own books while at the same time happy to be picking up such a lucrative deal.

Third in series of Historical Romances

Waiting For an Earl Like You: A Masters of Seduction Novel

By: Alexandra Hawkins

Rating: 4 of 5

waitingforanearlI enjoyed reading this book as a Historical Romance; however, I was definitely disturbed by the violence which the heroine suffers and also the speed by which her soon-to-be love is willing to “ruin” her. It is a little too casually done for me. I know that women were not highly regarded at the time but in today’s world, a light-hearted romance seems to be the wrong place for a woman to suffer.

Engaging second book in new mystery series

A Pinch of Poison (A Lady and Lady’s Maid Mystery)

By: Alyssa Maxwell

Rating: 5 of 5

pinchofpoisonThis is the second book in the A Lady and Lady’s Maid Mystery by Alyssa Maxwell. I have read both books and suggest reading them in order. While there is nothing in this book which works as a spoiler for the first one, there is a growth of the characters that will be enhanced by reading the books in order starting with “Murder Most Malicious”.

Cute Romantic Comedy about two writers

Love Literary Style

By: Karin Gillespie

Rating: 5 of 5

loveliterarystyleI started reading Karin Gillepsie’s novels with her series, The Bottom Dollar. I found myself alternating from tearing up to laughing from the beginning to end of each book and began to actively start searching for her books. While “Love Literary Style” is a stand-along book and has nothing to do with the series, it is every bit as fun and touching as her previous works.

In this book, Laurie Lee, is a fairly recent widow who is a sweetheart of a young woman. She has moved to Atlanta from her small town to attend nail school but her heart is really in writing romantic comedies. After all, she has read so many and watched so many rom-com movies, that it must be a snap. When she wins a scholarship to a writing camp, she knows that she must pursue her talent.
