Fun romance with a great mystery
The Scandalous Flirt (Cinderella Sisterhood Series)
By: Olivia Drake
Rating: 5 of 5
This is both the first book I have read in this series as well as the first book I have read by Olivia Drake. The book can easily be read stand-alone though I am looking forward to going back and reading the earlier books in this series to see the back story on the slippers.
I started the book expecting an historical romance (which it delivered) but was really surprised to find that it had a wonderful mystery embedded as well. That brought together my two favorite genres in novels and did it very well.

Another engaging mystery in this cozy mystery series set in Maine
Thread the Halls (A Mainely Needlepoint Mystery)
By: Lea Wait
Rating: 5 of 5
I’ve read and enjoyed all six books in this series. While I think this book could be read stand-alone, I recommend reading the series in order as the character development and relationships are built from book to book.
The series is set in a fictitious town on the shore of Maine. My husband grew up in Camden, Maine and he tells me that Lea Wait is spot on in her descriptions of the types of individuals who live in Maine, the look and feel of the small towns that dot the coast line and also in her history of the state.

Second volume of Alice’s adventures – this time Through the Looking Glass 40 new designs printed one side of the page
Alice’s Nightmare – Through the Looking Glass
By: Shalla Mar N. Mugot; published by Julia Rivers, Storytroll
Rating: 5 of 5
I am a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass coloring books. In this second coloring book in her Alice Nightmare series, the artist (Shalla Mar N. Mugot) takes on a nightmare version of Alice’s Trough the Looking Glass.
As with the previous book, the story stays true to the book but the vision is seriously different. This is not a coloring book for little children (and there is an appropriate warning on the back of the page. There are some fairly twisted and creepy characters and some slightly gory scenes as well. Be sure to check my silent, full-book video to see if this book will work for you.
The designs are detailed but do not, for the most part, include intricate elements with lots of tiny spots to color. Some of the designs incorporate a good bit of black as a pre-colored element to the illustration.

Cute Disney Princess felt kit – enough materials to make all ten characters but lacking some visual instructions
Disney Princess Felt (Felt Kits)
By: Aimee Ray for Thunderbay Press
Rating: 4 of 5
I’ve recently gotten back into making various felt characters, though most are from instructions in a book with my own chosen materials. I’ve also been picking up these kits by Aimee Ray. While the materials are not quite the same as those that I would chose for myself, I’ve found that they are of a good quality and make characters which my grandchildren enjoy playing with.
My other kits sets have been geared a little more toward my grandson, so I was really pleased to see a set of Disney Princesses which my granddaughter can enjoy. There are ten characters in this set: Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, Mulan, Jasmine, Ariel, Snow White, Tiana, Merida and Rapunzel.

Closure on many fronts but with new characters and new adventures seemingly on the way
Mind Game: A Novel (Eve Duncan)
By:Iris Johansen
Rating: 4 of 5
I’ve read many of the Eve Duncan series and, once again, I wish there had been something about Eve as a forensic sculptor. There is a small aside comment but otherwise, the book is really about Jane and Caleb.
Jane has had visions from Cira, a former slave who lived hundreds of years before. Cira has been leading Jane to her family’s treasure of gold coins which are supposedly hidden in Scotland. In this story, not only does Jane have Cira to contend with, suddenly a new individual begins haunting her dreams.

44 Christmas Designs by Margaret Tarrant – printed both sides of the page
The Enchanting Christmas Coloring Book
By: Margaret Tarrant
Rating: 4 of 5
This is another lovely coloring book of designs based on the Christmas/winter artwork of Margaret Tarrant. For the most part, the designs have been rendered in line drawings very well. There are a number; however, which are too simplistic (especially those of snowmen) and could have had more detail added.
Unlike the fairies book (which was brown lines on white paper), this coloring book is done with green lines on white paper. Perhaps to show the holiday spirit. The line drawings are on the right side of the page and a full color image of the artwork is shown on the facing left side of the page.
While some of the designs are lacking in detail, most have a good amount of detail sufficient for coloring but still allowing room for shading, blending, and adding one’s own embellishments.
There is, once again, a short history of Ms. Tarrant’s art at the front of the book. Unlike the previous book, there are no title banners on each of the designs. Both ways work for me, so I have no problem with it. It might have been nice to include a page which gave pertinent information about each design.

Fun new cozy mystery series with a vegan chef
Bones To Pick (A Brie Hooker Mystery) (Volume 1)
By:Linda Lovely
Rating: 5 of 5
Brie Hooker is a vegan chef who has come home to visit when one of her twin aunts passes away. She ends up staying to help her remaining Aunt Eva run the goat cheese farm that the two aunts had worked on together.
While she is a vegan, she is okay with fixing non-vegan dishes for family and friends, so the book doesn’t preach too hard about food choices. She is attracted to two different men who are quite carnivorous in their food choices as well. She is just finding her footing, when the family pig makes a gruesome discovery on the farm – one that spells legal problems (and worse) for Aunt Eva.

20 Harry Potter Magical Artifacts Designs in a large format coloring poster book printed on one side of the page
Harry Potter Magical Artifacts Poster Coloring Book
By: Scholastic
Rating: 5 of 5
I will attach a silent video to this review (as well as a few sample photos of designs) so you can decide if it this coloring book is one that will work for you.
This is the poster version of the Harry Potter Magical Artifacts coloring book. If you own the the Magical Artifacts coloring book, then you have all of these illustrations in a smaller, two-sided design format. What I like about this coloring book is that the images are bigger, are printed one side of the page and are printed on medium weight card stock instead of lighter weight paper.
I like the illustrations that they chose for this book. Unlike the poster book for the first Harry Potter coloring book, this book does not contain the repeated designs that I refer to as wallpaper designs. The publishers picked out some of the best of the illustrations to enlarge for this book.
I really appreciate the poster format for coloring books. The paper is much more heavy weight though I call it a medium weight card stock. It could certainly stand up well to being framed if you so choose after you color it. The size is also great for framing at 14 x 11 inches.
I tested the poster book with a wide variety of coloring medium and will provide my test results in the overview below.
Here is the what I discovered about this coloring book during tests and coloring in it:
20 Harry Potter Magical Artifacts Designs in 14 x 11 inch format
Designs printed on one side of the white medium weight slightly smooth card stock
Glue Bound to inner cover with the type of binding that allows you to remove pages in whole by carefully pulling them off (think of a notepad) except the first page of the book which is perforated
Alcohol-based markers bleed through slightly on this paper
Water-based markers, India Ink pens, and gel pens did not bleed through this paper
Colored pencils worked well with this paper. I found that, using pencil style blending sticks, my oil-based soft lead pencils blended slightly better than the wax-based but both layered very well.

One of my favorite mystery series just got better
Cold As Ice (The Country Club Murders Book 6)
By: Julie Mulhern
Rating: 5 of 5
I have read each and every book in Julie Mulhern’s The Country Club Murders series. I was astounded with her writing skill in the first book in (“The Deep End”) and each succeeding book has added even more to my delight.
The setting is the early 1970’s in Kansas City and our sleuth, Ellison Russell, is part of the elite country club members. Over the last year (and five prior books), Ellison’s life has been turned upside down. She is trying to breaking free of the privileged mold that she was born into. She wants something different for both herself and for her teenaged daughter, Grace.

Another fun entry in in TJ Jensen Mystery series
Fireworks in Paradise (A Tj Jensen Mystery) (Volume 8)
By: Kathi Daley
Rating: 5 of 5
I’ve read most but not all of the TJ Jensen Mystery series. “Fireworks in Paradise” brings us back to the small town where TJ’s family owns a resort.
TJ’s father has been in an accident that claimed the life of an old family friend. It starts looking as if the accident was anything but accidental but the problem is trying to weed down the list of suspects.
