32 cute Fairy inspired Little Village designs – printed one side of the page

Serene Little Village -The Tiny Fairies of the Flower Meadow

Published by: Julia Rivers

Rating: 5 of 5

This is a second in a series of the Serene Little Village. I like little village coloring books and purchased the first one in this series as well. While that book was devoted to cute animals, this book is focused on fairies. Having said that, there are still little cute animals on almost every page.

The designs are detailed with lots of fun elements to color. The fairies are cute and are busy at work and play. The animals are represented more as animals rather than dressed in human clothes. There are friends of the fairies.

There are some areas with smaller than average elements to color but not what I would consider too difficult or hard to color.

This book is published under the imprint name of Julia Rivers but unlike many of their other books though as with the first of the book in this series, this one does not contain the name of the actual artist(s) responsible for the book. I can only hope that the publisher will encourage that the person(s) responsible for it and we will see new books in the future.

32 fun and unique Halloween designs – printed one side of page

Susie’s Whimsical Halloween Coloring Book For All Ages

By: Susie Scott

Rating: 5 of 5

This is my second Susie Scott coloring book (the first being her Christmas book I reviewed last year.) Her designs are fun and innovative and very cute as well. I hadn’t found what I considered a great Halloween coloring book this year until I came across this one. This is not a scary book and could be fun for a younger colorer to work on. It is also great for adults as well.

I see that she released both of these books last year and, at this point, doesn’t seem to have released any more. I enjoy her designs so much, I hope she does do more books as I would certainly buy them.

The designs have detail but are not difficult to color. Each of the designs have a framing line though a few have finished elements that extend slightly further over the line. It gives the design a dimensional look that is cute and different.

Mostly traditional secular Christmas Coloring – cute with designs printed one side of the page

Creative Christmas Coloring Book

By: Marjorie Sarnat

Rating: 5 of 5

“Creative Christmas” is the first Christmas theme coloring book by Marjorie Sarnat. I enjoy her design work and I really enjoy Christmas coloring designs, so I am very happy with the book. While I do like Christian theme images to color, this coloring book does not really contain much that I would consider religious.

There are a couple of angel designs and a possible one of the three wise men that reads a little more like three Green Men to me.

Apart from that, the designs are fun to color and evoke the festive time of year. There are Santas and sleigh rides and snowmen, and of course, Ms. Sarnat’s signature cat and dog designs.

The designs are detailed but not really intricate or too difficult to color. There are full backgrounds and framing lines for a nice, fully finished look.

I’ve noticed that the paper quality seems to change quite frequently on the Creative Haven line. Because of that, if you buy one of these books, it may be slightly smooth or slightly rough depending on when and where it was printed. I’ve found that coloring medium, including pencils, work similarly with both slightly rough and slightly smooth paper from Creative Haven. In this case, my coloring book pages are slightly rough.

Another thinner coloring book with less illustrations – printed one side of the page

Geomorphia: An Extreme Coloring and Search Challenge

By: Kerby Rosanes

Rating: 4 of 5

This is Kerby Rosanes latest and, perhaps according to the buzz, his last coloring book. It is another thinner book, like Fantomorphia. This time, when I pre-ordered this book, I was aware of the number of pages it included. Thus, the fact that it was only one quarter the number of designs as in, for instance, Mythomorphia, didn’t surprise me.

The designs are full images (no animals cut in half in this one!) They are what I have come to expect from Mr. Rosanes: beautiful and imaginative. One of my favorites is of giraffes with trees sprouting out of their heads.

I really like the book but wish it were bigger. I must say, having pre-ordered it, I got it for under $10. If I had to pay the printed list of $16.00, I would not necessarily think it worth that much. However, I have purchased CreateSpace books with fairly mediocre paper for around the same price as what I paid for this book and for the same number of images, so I can’t complain about that.

96 pages of Classic Winnie-the-Pooh designs – printed both sides of the page

Winnie-the-Pooh: A Colouring Book

Published by: Egmont Books Ltd

Rating: 5 of 5

I am a huge Disney fan but when it comes to Winnie-the-Pooh, my heart belongs to the classic version. I was thrilled to find a coloring book (English publication) that has images from the classic Pooh versions of the book.

The designs are lovely and so much fun to color. All of my favorite characters are well represented. There is a very heavy use of black in the book but apart from being careful not to use my pencils on it, I don’t mind it at all.

The designs are open and fairly easy to color. If you want to add elements, most designs have open space for you to do so. I think this is a great book for a pre-teen child (maybe eight an up) to color as well as an adult. If a child younger is good at coloring, they may well enjoy the book, too.

At the time that I am writing this review, you can order this book directly from Book Depository or from a third-party seller on Amazon.

25 Unique Fairy Designs with a Manga feel – printed one side of the page

Cute Fairies

By: Jade Summer

Rating: 5 of 5

This is a book of 25 cute Fairy designs. It makes the title make sense! Some of the recent Jade Summer coloring books have been a miss for me, but this one (although a little bit older) is one that I really like. The fairies are younger and some have a bit of anime look about them. There are mostly young women but a few younger girls and a couple of young men.

In addition to the hardcopy book if you purchase it, you can receive .pdf downloads (with directions on how to do so included in the book.) While printing those copies is a great plus, I will be reviewing (and videoing and photo images) from the print copy.

The designs are detailed with full backgrounds. I don’t consider this book to be intricate or hard to color. Simply said, the images will take a little more time to color but that is a plus for me.

I want to note that the Amazon owned company, CreateSpace is now being folded into KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing.) These independent artist books will move along into the new group shortly if they have not already done so by now. According to what I’ve read, the same warehouses and printing presses will be used. No mention is made of paper but one assumes that it will be the same as well.

30 Beautiful angel designs – printed one side of the page

Lovely Angels

By: Juliana Emerson

Rating: 5 of 5

This is the second “character” coloring book I have purchased by Juliana Emerson. I own several others of her works (generally flowers or animals) and have also purchased other Happy Coloring books as well.

I’m amazed once again at how lovely her character books are turning out. I enjoy her other books but these are even more special. The designs are detailed without being too intricate.

There are a wide variety of “angels” and they will all be fun to color. The one that caught my eye as being both different and quite elegant is the ballerina angel. That will certainly be my first project in this book.

Unlike “Fantasy Kingdom” (her last character book), this book is in standard size coloring book format. Also, I noticed that some of the issues I had with lines around the faces and necks being too stark in the last book is not an issue in “Lovely Angels”.

27 Kawaii style Grimms’ Fairy Tales designs – printed one side of the page

Grimms’ Fairy Tales Adult Coloring Book Vol. 1

By: Just 2 Kawaii

Rating: 5 of 5

This is a cute Kawaii style coloring book. The designs are printed on one side of the page. Each design page is prefaced by a storybook style one page synopsis of the fairy tale. While I wish the design company had taken the time to change up the border design on the synopsis page, it doesn’t bother me too much. Most coloring books in this category would not have a synopsis page at all – merely design pages. I may or may not color those synopsis pages. If I do, I will change my color scheme to create a difference from one story to another.

The designs are really cute. I love the Kawaii style for these characters. I’m used to really elegant fairy tale coloring pages, so to have a cute and fun book is both different and nice.

The designs are detailed but not intricate or hard to color. The the designs all run off the page on all sides (and disappear into the bound edge as well.)

45 line drawing designs based on the artwork of Gustav Klimt – printed one side of page

Gustav Klimt (Art Colouring Book): Make Your Own Art Masterpiece

By: artist David Jones and selected by Daisy Seal

Rating: 3.5 of 5

This is an older releases in the series of “Make Your Own Art Masterpiece” coloring books from Flame Tree. I purchased it more than a year ago but because of my issues with some of the designs, I had put it to the side. The designs in this book are based on the artwork of Gustav Klimt, whose imagery I really appreciate. I have a large canvas print (tree of life) over my fireplace and was really looking forward to this book.

While many of the designs are done really well, there are some that hit a touchy spot with me. There are close-up details rather than full size renderings and I really would have rather had more to color than less. In some cases, the outlines of the designs are done with double lines – again, something I don’t like. The one thing that more than a few of the designs have that I really don’t like is lines drawn across the figures to (especially faces, hands, etc.) to show where shadows should be put. I would really rather do my own blending and not have to follow the dictates of the extraneous lines that someone has added to the design.

I knocked down the stars on this review by .5 for each of the things that I don’t like – hence a 3.5. However, I will note that for the designs where these issues don’t occur, the artwork is 5 star as is the publishing of the book.

There are 45 line drawing designs to color. The designs were chosen by Daisy Seal and were illustrated by David Jones. The name of the original illustration is on the page facing the drawing and includes, where possible: name, date, medium used, size and current location. There is a thumbnail of a small portion of the design with some color showing.

The inside flaps at the front and back of the book have black and white line drawings which can be colored as well. The cover is quite smooth but will accept various forms of color medium.

25 Christmas inspired mouse and mouse house designs – printed one side of page

Nice Little Town Christmas 2

By: Tatiana Bogema (Stolova)

Rating: 5 of 5

This is the second in a series of special Christmas Nice Little Town coloring books. In this book, the artist has chosen to spotlight her little mouse characters. The designs are certainly secular rather than religious in nature. The town is decorated from stem to stern for Christmas with trees, gifts, elves and more.

One of my favorites is of the little mouse sitting on Santa’s lap. The little guy is bawling just like my kids did the first time they went to see Santa. The mice are trying to behave themselves so Santa won’t bring them coal! The designs are detailed and some include intricate areas to color.

As usual with this series, each page is cuter than the one before. In addition to the Little Town drawings, the artist has also included some bonus illustrations of Christmas ornaments. The ornaments are less detailed than the Little Town designs.

I want to note that the Amazon owned company, CreateSpace is now being folded into KDF (Kindle Direct Publishing.) These independent artist books will move along into the new group shortly if they have not already done so by now. According to what I’ve read, the same warehouses and printing presses will be used. No mention is made of paper but one assumes that it will be the same as well.

I don’t know if the copy I received was printed by CreateSpace or by KDP, but I can say that it is the same paper I am used to receiving (for years now) from CreateSpace. That is: thin, white, slightly rough, and non-perforated. I will continue to check books as I receive them and will note, in new reviews, if the quality changes.
