21 Fun Fantasy Cat Designs printed on one side of heavyweight paper
Fantasy Cats A Magical Adventure of Fun and Crazy Cats to Color. Coloring fun for all ages.
By: Deborah Muller
Rating: 5 of 5
I own several coloring books by Deborah Muller; however, this is the first coloring book by her which has a spiral binding. The 21 designs in the book are of cats in fantasy outfits and poses. They are all as cute as can be (except maybe the zombie cat who is a bit scary.) The paper is a really nice weight as well. I like that the designs are much bigger than those of the Posh books by this artist. I find that the details are much bigger and are easy to color in this book.
For my first three projects in this book, I used a variety of alcohol-based markers. They did, of course, bleed through the page but with the spiral binding, I was able to isolate the page from the rest of the book without any issues at all.
I will provide more details about the physical coloring book below, but here is a quick overview of what I found:
21 Fantasy Cat Designs printed on one side of the page-by-age
Paper is heavyweight, non-perforated and white
Spiral Binding
Designs do not merge into the binding area
Easily opens to a flat position for coloring
Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page
Water-based markers and India ink markers do not bleed through
Gel pens do not bleed through but require additional drying time
Coloring pencils work well with this paper
The designs in this book are well printed and are printed on one side only of non-perforated heavyweight (almost card stock) white paper. The binding is spiral bound so you can easily open the book to a flat position. The designs do not merge into the binding area, so if you choose to remove pages by cutting them out, you should not lose any portions of the designs.
I test my coloring books with a variety of medium which I will list in the comments section below. Here are the results of my tests:
Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper. It is almost impossible, short of postcard stock, to find anything that these do not bleed through. Water-based markers, India ink pens and gel pens do not bleed through the paper. Gel pens require additional drying time. Coloring pencils work well with the paper. Soft lead pencils layer well and blend as well. Hard lead pencils make good color marks and do not dent the back of the page.
Spiral bound books are much more unusual. I like the concept but still wish the pages were perforated. While I am right-handed, I know that left-handed individuals have problems with the hump of regular binding. It seems like spiral binding might be as much of an issue for them. Otherwise, I really like the way this book is printed and will certainly look for more books by this publisher.
