A great end to a fun and scarey series

The Last Bogler (How to Catch a Bogle)

By: Catherine Jinks

Rating: 5 of 5

lastboglerThis is the third and last book in the “Bogler” series by Catherine Jinks. I enjoyed both the first and second books just as well as this one and I recommend reading them in order to get the most out of the series. The book picks up shortly after the events of the second book in the series. The series concludes in a really interesting and satisfying manner and one that I was not expecting.

In this story, the bogler assistants are Ned and Jem although Birdie is still at hand. The focus of this book is on Ned (the first book was about Birdie and the second one was about Jem.) These are the children who act as “bait” to lure out the bogles (the children-eating monsters that infest London underground.) The story is definitely on the scarey side with a lot of sticky and icky things to satisfy those kids who love this type of story. As with the rest of the series, there is a bit of slang used in the book but there is a small dictionary of these terms at the end of the book to help young readers along.

I mentioned this in my last review, I would love to see this series turned into a series of movies. The author has done a great job of describing the setting, events and characters. I can almost visualize the whole thing in my head. I will miss the series but look forward to more books by this author in the future.

The book is a fitting end to a series that I enjoyed. I would suggest parents read the book first before letting young children have a go at it. It seems like it might be better for the age ten and up group.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
