Another interesting mystery in a series I enjoy

The Woman in Blue (Ruth Galloway Mysteries)

By: Elly Griffiths

Rating: 4 of 5

womaninblue“The Woman in Blue” is the latest entry in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. Ruth is an archeologist and has assisted the local police on a number of cases. This book involves much less of Ruth’s expertise and is more about religion (or lack thereof) that each of the characters espouses.

When a murder occurs in the area near a church, Detective Inspector Nelson and his crew get called in to solve the crime. Ruth is on the peripheral of the story involving the murder and does not figure so much in either the search or solving of it. She does come up with some information but we seem to be exploring her attitude towards religion and God as well as questions about her relationship with the father of her child. Not quite what I have come to expect in this series.

The mystery is solid and I wasn’t able to figure it out ahead of time – which is unusual after decades of reading and solving mysteries. I always appreciate when this happens, especially if the author leaves clues and I didn’t pick them up – which is the case with this book.

The book has a bit of a transitional feel to it. As if something different and unusual will happen in the next entry but it left me with an unfinished feeling at the end. I’m not sure if that was a good thing or not.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
