Interesting story which read more as literature until the final few chapters

Don’t You Cry

Rating: 4 of 5

dontyoucry“Don’t You Cry” is the first book I have read by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I picked up the book on the basis that it was a suspense story. For the majority of the book, I thought that perhaps it had been mislabeled and was really a literature book. However, in the final few chapters, the suspense came out in full force and tied the book together fairly well.

There are two story lines in the book. One involves twenty-something Quinn, a young woman who lives in Chicago and wakes to find her roommate is missing. The second story involves Alex, and 18 year old who has given up his chance to get away from his small town life of drudgery to keep his drunken father from falling further into his alcoholism.

Around the time Quinn’s roommate disappears, a strange young woman shows up in Alex’s small town. How these two stories are intertwined is what makes up the suspense of the story. What is more literature are 1) Quinn’s life outside of her connection to her roommate and 2) Alex’s past history and the sad story of what brought him to this point in his life.

In the end, I found the book to be a good read though I must admit there were parts about the end that I wish had been different. I would certainly consider reading another book by this author in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
