Fairly Easy to make small quilt projects

24-Hour Quilting Projects (Dover Quilting)

24hourquiltThis book is a reprint of the same book from 2005. Because of this, it will be highly improbably for you to find the same exact fabrics as shown in the book. I’ve found that quilt fabrics go out of production fairly rapidly, so I am always happy to just use the fabric in photographs as a general guide rather than a specific one.

I have quilted on and off for more than 30 years. I have made quilts by hand and by machine. I have pieced quilts and appliqued them as well. I have used scissors, rotary cutters and even both manual and electric fabric cutting devices (such as GO) to cut pieces of fabric. I’ve quilted by hand, by machine and with free-embroidery stitching by machine. Even so, I don’t consider myself more than an advanced beginner to intermediate in quilting. I enjoy the process but have never spent months developing a project.

Because of this, I was happy to see a 24 hour quilt project book. It’s interesting that the author has given times next to each project but, for me at least, it takes a lot longer to finish than she estimates.

The projects are fun and give you a taste of various ways to make a quilt. The descriptions are good as are the visual instructions. I think it is a great book for beginners to use. The only issue I have is that there have been a lot of new products made available in the last decade and those are not discussed in the book. I would consider it a good add-on to a new quilters library but not a definitive book for their use.

I was provided a temporary digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, Dover Publications, via Netgalley.
