unreasonabledoubtWhen I started reading this book, I had no idea that it was tenth in a series. I often read books out of order in a series to see if I can still find my way as a reader. It quickly became obvious, to me, that this was not going to be an easy story to simply pick up and read. There are many characters with a lot of back history that is integral to the plot development.

For me, it was difficult to see the connection between some of the police officers, their spouses and partners, their children, and how they all related to one another.

When it came down to the mystery, though, that part of the book certainly could stand on its own. I thought some of the relationships that were built in this story, especially involving that of Walter Desmond, were a little faster paced that I would like. The murder mystery solution was not quite what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by that.

I would certainly read more books by this author but I recommend going back and reading the older books in this series to get more enjoyment out of this one.

I was provided a temporary digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, Poisoned Pen Press, via Netgalley.
