Imaginative Trip to the Coast and Sea at Tangle Bay printed on both sides of page

Tangle Bay: An Enchanting Colouring Book with Hidden Treasure

Rating: 5 of 5

I have so enjoyed Tangle Wood by Jessica Palmer, I pre-ordered Tangle Bay without even a peek at what was inside. I was not disappointed. Ms. Palmer once again takes me on trip to an imaginative and creative land this time in and around the ocean at the mythical Tangle Bay. This is a place where mermaids (and mermen) abound. There is lost treasure, birds wearing sunhats, pirate ships, lighthouses, and much more. There’s even a design of The Owl and the Pussycat that is going to be loads of fun to color. All of the designs are hand-drawn for that extra special touch of artistry in coloring your projects.

The designs are printed on both sides of the white non-perforated page. Some of the designs merge into the binding and some of the designs are spread across two pages. In my copy, the two-page spreads align very well. The binding is sewn rather than glued. That means you can remove multiple pages at one time by snipping a few threads and you won’t lose portions of the designs as you would if you had to cut the pages out. As common with sewn bindings, I could break the spine slightly and get the book to lay fairly flat.

Only my alcohol-based markers seeped through the page. My water-based markers (fine, ultra-fine, and brush tips), gel pens and India ink artist pens did not bleed through but my gel pens did require a longer drying time. My coloring pencils worked very well with this paper and behaved as expected for brand and lead type. The soft lead pencils were very easy to blend and my hard lead pencils did not leave an indent at the back of the page.

These are the coloring medium that I use for testing. If there is something else you feel I should be testing, please let me know and I will see if I can add it to my growing pile:

Markers: 1) alcohol-based Copic Sketch, Prismacolor double ended markers (brush and fine point), Sharpies (fine and ultra-fine) Bic Mark-its (fine and ultra-fine) and 2) water-based Tombows dual end markers (brush and fine point), Stabilo 88, and Staedler triplus fineliners

India Ink: Faber-Castell PITT artist pens (brush tip)

Gel Pens: Sakura, Fiskars, Uni-ball Signo in the following sizes – 0.28/0.38/0.5/1.0 and Tekwriter

Coloring Pencils: Prismacolor Premier Soft Core, Derwent Colorsoft, Prismacolor Verithins, and Faber-Castell Polychromos
