I recently purchased (and reviewed) the companion coloring book to this set of coloring greeting cards. I was really pleased to see the quality of paper used in these cards it is very heavy weight and I was able to use all of my coloring mediums with only the slightest of bleed-through by my alcohol-based markers.

I thought these would be great birthday cards to color for a number of family and friends this year. I wasn’t familiar with Mr. Blanding’s artwork until I purchased the book but have really enjoyed being able to put my own colorways onto these black and white cards. For the most part, the cards have heavy black printing that has a slight gloss.

The cards are printed with a design on the front, blank inside, and a small thumbnail print of the design on the back. The paper color is cream and the envelope is light brown. The envelope closure flap is interestingly shaped and adds to the whole feeling of specialness that I think a recipient would experience when receiving a colored version of the card. Actually, the artwork is beautiful enough to stand on its own, so no need to color this if you prefer not.

My first project is a birthday card for one of my daughters. I will include a photo of it and the inside of the card so you can see the slight color bleed through from my heavy use of alcohol-based markers. I also used water-based markers and gel pens with no bleed-through at all. I usually test my coloring materials but in this case, with only eight cards, I will not be testing as I don’t want to give up even one of the cards.
