slimpickensI picked up this book without realizing that it was a second in a series. I don’t know if there will be a third book but I am certainly hoping for one. I also didn’t realize that it was a humorous slice of life book rather than a contemporary romance. I also much preferred the reality to what I had in my mind. The book made me laugh continually as I went through. I only wish that I had read the first book first but as it is, I so enjoyed this book, I have purchased the first one to enjoy as well.

The story is a continuation of a group of individuals who have inherited a building in a small little town in Fat Chance Texas. Fat Chance is located in the Hill Country, which is the area which includes Austin. I lived in a nearby unincorporated part of the Hill Country for years so many of the character types in the book ring true to my own experiences.

The characters are all a tiny bit odd and have great stories to tell. Going back to the first book will give me the “before” look at each of them which, while it isn’t necessary, will provide answers I have on their backgrounds.

I enjoyed the book tremendously, will certainly be reading the first one soon and hope that the series will continue as I want to know what happens to Titan, Fernando, Poppy and all the rest.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, Kensington, via Netgalley.
