The Kind-hearted Monster

thekindheartedmonsterThe book actually contains two stories about a kind-hearted fire-breathing monster. The stories are extremely cute and should appeal to young children. The illustrations are excellent and are both beautiful and colorful. They are drawn in a fashion to replicate what a child might draw to illustrate a story.

The first story is about a kind-hearted monster who gets in a bit of trouble for taking a farmer’s corn. The townspeople are afraid of the monster because he is a fire-breathing monster and of course those types of monsters are usually ferocious. It turns out this monster named Mervyn is an exception to the ferocious rule and the people of the town and especially the mayor have to figure out exactly what to do with him. Alls well that ends well in this lovely little story.

The second story is about the monster and the robbers. In this story, neighboring robbers decide that they will steal Mervyn and sell him for a lot of money because there seems to be a huge market for fire-breathing monsters in this land. The robbers come up with what they feel is a fool-proof scheme but then again, they haven’t had to deal with a monster before. Once again, the story ends well for Mervyn (with a little help from his friends.)

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, NorthSouth, via Netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
