edwardsmenagerieThis is a wonderful set of designs for a wide variety of crocheted stuffed animals. The book is written in British terms, so those who follow the US terms will need to adjust their brains around the stitches. I have a page of conversion terms that I have put together to remind me – so I just sit that to the side and refer back to it when I have to change stitches. I’ve done this for years and find it helpful.

Apart from the issue with terms, I don’t see that the patterns are very difficult. I believe that a fairly beginner crocheter should be able to stitch these without problem. I would not try this as a first project but perhaps after you have made a scarf or two and perhaps a hat. That will give you experience with straight stitching and rounds.

There are some standardized pieces in the collection that are fairly easy to master and from that point on, it is fairly simple to make a whole houseful of animals. I am enjoying crocheting these for grandchildren and for me, too. I am also looking forward to Kerry Lord’s book on crochet birds which is coming out this fall.
