Interesting and Action-filled transitional book in a three part series within a series

Hide Away: An Eve Duncan Novel

By: Iris Johansen

Rating: 4 of 5

hideawayI read this series out of order by reading the 19th and the 21st books before reading this, the 20th book in the Eve Duncan series. I thought that I had not missed much but once I went back and read through “Hide Away”, I realized that it was filled with pivotal information that transitioned the series. I highly suggest that you read these three books in their intended order.

In “Hide Away”, Eve is now responsible for Cara, a young girl who has been on the run from murders for most of her life. Not only was her older sister murdered years before but just recently (in book 19), her life-long caregiver has also been killed. Cara is trying to find her way and the adults around her are trying to both protect her and also give her the freedom to choose her own path.

Those two goals are at odds with one another when there is someone out there who wants Cara dead. There are also other sub-plots that continue in this story, notably that of a search for lost treasure in the Highlands of Scotland.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, via Netgalley.
