Second in mystery series about craft painting

Paint the Town Dead (An Aurora Anderson Mystery) (Volume 2)

paintthetowndeadI didn’t realize that “Paint the Town Dead” was the second in a series of books until after I had finished reading it. It reads fairly well as a stand-alone book but there were references in text that were a bit confusing until I realized it referred to action in the earlier book.

I like mysteries and I like hobby and crafts, so this book combined two things I like in one. The only discordant note for me was the idea of a small community such as this in Los Angeles. I lived most of my life in small beach communities in Southern California and, while there was a real small community vibe as recently as the 1990’s, most of that has gone by the wayside since then. Once I (mentally) changed the location to further north or south on the coast, I was able to enjoy the mystery.

While I figured out most of the whodunnit way before the book was finished, I enjoyed the antics of the various characters. I would certainly enjoy reading more books in this series because of the writing and the subject (crafting) included.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, Henery Press, via Netgalley.
