6158iah-6gl-_sx411_bo1204203200_This is my second crochet book by Dora Ohrenstein. The first, “The Crocheter’s Skill-Building Workshop” has become a resource book for me that I look to time and time again. While the first book was a general crochet book, this one is specific to making crochet sweaters.

I have made a number of crochet garments over the years and they have all been ones that I make piece by piece and then have to whip stitch together. With the top down method, you still have to piece together parts but the way the garment crocheted together is considerably different. There is a real emphasis on drape that is new to me.

I really appreciate the detailed instructions that precede making a garment. The author is teaching a method that can be used in the future rather than a simple pattern. She provides additional information on how to fit the garments to your own size as well. This includes shaping necklines, armholes, and even tapering waists. She even gives instructions that allows a crocheter to convert some pullover designs to cardigans.

I recommend this book to intermediate to advanced crocheters. This is not necessarily a book that I would give to a beginner or advanced beginner due to the techniques involved in creating the sweaters.

I was provided a temporary digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher, Storey Publishing, LLC, via Netgalley.
