“Cat About Town” is the first book in a new cozy mystery series. Maddie James, owner of a successful juice bar business in San Francisco, returns home temporarily for her beloved Grandmother’s funeral and is quickly caught up in investigating the murder of one of the town’s less liked individuals. Maddie is also very concerned about the health of her grandfather and, in addition, acquires a cat. One could more rightly say that the cat, a stray she names JJ, actually acquires Maddie.

There are a lot of characters introduced and whose background is given. This is common in first books in a series and sometimes slows down the progression of the plot. I realize that it is a necessity for the series to continue at a good pace and so I don’t let it trouble me too much.

I enjoyed the book, the whodunnit and some of the other “happenings” along the way. I’ll certainly be looking for more of this series in the future.
