Sweet story of two people reaching out to one another

The Misremembered Man

This is a lovely story about a farm, Jamie, who has had a very tough go of it. He lived his first ten years in a cruel orphanage. It is also about Lydia, who is the woman Jamie begins to correspond with. Lydia is a woman who has lived her life under the oppressive rule of her mother. She has decided it is time to live a bit. The correspondence between the two is touching but it is very obvious that these two are ill-sorted on many levels.

The really fun part of the story is the neighbor Rose McFadden. She is bound and determined to find a wife for Jamie because she figures that will cure everything that ails him. Truth told, Jamie is suffering from deep sadness and loneliness but Rose helps him along while her long-suffering husband gives aid now and then but mostly knows to stay out of the way.

I enjoyed the book as I did “The Disenchanted Widow” which is the first in this series. I look forward to more books by this author in the future.
