Lots of twists in this near-future science fiction thriller

The Fold: A Novel

By: Peter Clines

Rating: 4.5 of 5

thefoldI enjoyed this book very much. It was attention grabbing from the beginning and the main character is one that I would certainly like to see in future books. In my opinion, this could be the first of a series.

About 30% into the book, I had a theory of what was going on. However, as the story unfolded more it became apparent that my theory was in the right direction but incorrect. There were a number of twists throughout the book that kept my interest and each time I put it down, I looked forward to the next time I picked it up to see what the author had coming up.

About 80% into the book, as the pivotal climax of the story was coming to a peak, some new developments happened and they were so out of character with the story I thought that the author was making a terrible mistake and perhaps was not sure how to finish the ending. I plowed through and in the end, I had to admit to myself that the climactic twists did make sense relative to the whole story line. I think, perhaps, that the visuals in this section of the book would be clearer in scenes of a movie.

Even with the pre-climatic twist that seems somewhat out of place, I really enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to reading more books if the author decides to turn this into a series. I also think this story could have potential as a movie in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
