A good artist’s version of Animorphia – printed large format and one side of perforated page

Animorphia Poster Edition

By: Kerby Rosanes

Rating: 4.5 of 5

This is a lovely poster edition of Animorphia. I really enjoy Kerby Rosanes artwork and own the original coloring book both in the US and UK edition (the UK one being the better by far when the books were first available. When I found this UK version of the book (set up in what we normally call an artist’s edition), I ordered it right away.

While I love the artwork and the format of the new book (thick paper, larger size and perforated pages at the top), what I am not so happy about is the cropping of the designs and the choice of designs included. This really could have been the opportunity to provide the peacock in a way that could be colored (the first one disappeared into the binding of the book) but it was not included.

What was included were designs which are chopped at the edges. They still work but it would have been nicer to have the whole design. Perhaps sizing it down would have made it impossible to color. Maybe not. In any case, it was a bit disappointing to me.

Notwithstanding that, these pages are ready to frame once you color them and remove them from the book. The book has a nicely illustrated cover and a heavy cardboard backing page which makes it easy to color on a flat surface.

This is what I found in this coloring book:

20 doodle creature designs by Kerby Rosanes included in the larger format poster book

The designs are printed on one side of the page

Paper is the medium/heavy weight, slightly rough and has perforated pages

Sewn Binding but with perforated pages so removing a page is fairly simple

The designs do not cross over the perforations

Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page. If you use this medium, I suggest either removing pages from the book to color or using a blotter page under your working page.

Water-based markers and gel pens and India ink pens do not bleed through nor do they leave shadows on the back on the page. I tried multiple layers of the India ink pens and could not get a bleed through at all.

Coloring pencils work well this paper. I was able to get good pigment (color) lay down, layer the same color and multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blender. Both oil and wax-based pencils have similar results.

Here is where I found the coloring book:
