therootofallevil“The Root of All Evil” is the fourth book in the Hope Street Church Mystery series. The whole gang is back again. There is so much going on in this book, it really jumps along as you read.

Cooper is now working in a managerial position at Make It Work and there is a problem at work – it appears that someone has been pilfering the work machines. The boss wants Cooper and the other manager to figure out who is responsible and, much as it goes against the grain, Cooper knows she has to figure it out. Cooper also is trying to figure out just what is going on with her relationship with her boyfriend Nathan. They have been together as a couple for more than a year but the relationship is taking a very different course than what she has learned to expect.

Getting beyond the issues that impact Cooper directly, there are even more things happening all at once. Ashley, Cooper’s sister, is just about to give birth to the next generation in their family. Ashley is having a troubled pregnancy and everyone is concerned for her. There is also a church thief lurking about stealing from various churches and it is only a matter of time before Hope Street gets hit. The topper is the murder mystery and once again the Sunrise Bible group gets involved in getting it solved.

While I was able to solve both the murder mystery and the thief at work very early on, the book was still a lot of fun to read. It had a snappier pace than the previous three books – all of which I enjoyed, too. I liked getting a visit with the other bible study members and hope that in future books, we get to spend a little more time with each of them and get to know them better.

I received a sample copy of the book from the publisher, Beyond the Page, via Netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I enjoyed the book and recommend the series, as well as the book, to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery.
