30 Animal designs in a mid-century style – printed one side of the page

Just Add Color: Mid-Century Modern Animals

By: Jenn Ski

Rating: 5 of 5

This is my first coloring book by Jenn Ski though I have purchased other books from the Just Add Color series. As always, with this series, the publishing is done well. The paper is heavy, slightly rough and has perforated pages.

The designs in the book are of animals. The style is in that of a mid-century style. The animals are definitely stylized but it also brings to my mind, the look of folk art as well.

The designs are open and easy to color. You have room to do blending or to add additional elements if you choose to do so. To be true to the mid-century look, big blocks of colors would be a great way to color.

This is what I found in this coloring book

30 animal designs inspired by the mid-century architectural movement

Printed on one side of the page

Paper is heavyweight, white, slightly rough, and perforated

Glue bound but with perforated pages

Some designs merge past the perforations into the binding area. I recommend removing pages before coloring if you plan to remove them.

This book can be opened to a fairly flat position by breaking the spine.

Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page.

Water-based markers, gel pens and India ink pens left color shadows on the back of the page.

Colored pencils do very well with this paper. It has a nice amount of tooth and both oil and wax-based pencils perform well. I was able to get nice pigment and to layer the same color, multiple colors, and blending easily using a pencil style blending stick.

Here are some sample photos from the book:
