What can I say? This book’s description had me at Bear Claws, which are my favorite pastry. Reading the book certainly made me look forward to having one in the near future.

Chef Charlie Cookie leaves San Francisco in the dust to head back home to her family’s diner, The Bear Claw, in Elkview, Alaska. Charlie takes over from her parents, who leave for an extended trip. She has a fair amount of disagreements with Chef Oliver, who has been at the head cook at the diner for two decades.

Oliver storms out and is found dead. Charlie comes under suspicion and decides to try to find the killer herself. Turns out that others in the town are willing and able to assist her, especial the town’s cute newspaper reporter.

There are twists and turns that lead to various individuals. I enjoyed watching the plot unfold and figuring out the whodunnit. I will admit, I figured it out slightly ahead of Charlie but I did not figure out the whydunnit until she did.

Along the way, the beauties of Alaska are described. I would stop and research interesting facts when they were mentioned. It made for a deeply interesting read and one that I will look forward to again in future books in this series.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Edelweiss.
