Love story regarding two adults with past issues

Not Always a Saint (Lost Lords)

notalwaysasaint“Not Always A Saint” is a love story involving the saintly Dr. Daniel Herbert and the beautiful widow, Jessie Kelham. They have both made their way to London to find a spouse who will fit well into their lifestyle, but without any expectation of finding someone they can love deeply.

There is an immediate attraction – and one that has a back story and history though Daniel does not recall it at the time. The two of them go back and forth trying to figure out if they want to wed the other or if there is a suitable spouse waiting for them who does not disturb their emotions.

The story is a love story but one that also deals with some darker emotional issues, both physical and emotional as children and as adults. By the end of the book, one can see how well matched these two are and how each can help the other move beyond the pain of the past.

While I have read a number of books by Mary Jo Putney in the past, I am new to this series of books, Lost Lords, so any of the prior relationships, friendships, or feuds are unknown to me. It was fairly easy to read this book as a stand-alone though there are references to at least one other book that involves the sister of this book’s hero. It might be a bit of a spoiler to read this one first if you are planning on reading the others. If that is the case, I suggest that you read them in order. Otherwise, the book is suitable to be read by itself.

I enjoyed the book and would definitely look for another by this author as well as another in this particular series.

I received a digital ARC copy of this book from the publisher, Zebra (Kensington Books), via Netgalley.
