Gone But Knot Forgotten (Quilting Mysteries (Mary Marks))

The third book is the charm as far as I am concerned. “Gone but Knot Forgotten” is the third book in Mary Marks Quilting Mysteries series. I enjoyed the first book, thought the second book was even better, and now the third book is my favorite. It is great to see a fairly new author grow in her craft and improve with each succeeding book. Considering that the first book was great (apart from some political comments that are not present in either the second or third books), that is quite an achievement.
In the newest book, Martha Rose is once again embroiled in a mystery. The question is – was it a routine death or was it murder? Martha is tapped to become the executor of the estate of her childhood friend. It turns into more than she bargained for and a lot of her old friends are tapped to help her again.
While the first book centered on quilting, neither the second nor the third do. Quilting is an important part of the story but Martha’s Jewish heritage and religious practices also are an important part of the story. I am not Jewish but I was very interested in the knowledge that I gained from Ms. Marks. It is always nice to receive an education without feeling like you are back in school. There were many traditions that were talked about and explained and I am the better for knowing more about it.
Once again, in the story and in a little add-on at the back, Ms. Marks also provides information about quilting that I found very valuable. I have never hand-quilted before so I was really interested to see how the characters in the story accomplished this. The add-on at the back of the book provided good information on how to plan your quilt – what colors, prints, etc. work well together.
I’m really happy with the way this series is progressing and am looking forward to reading the next installment. Martha’s personal life is back up in the air and it makes me wonder what is going to happen next.
I received a digital ARC copy of this book from the publisher, Kensington, via Netgalley.
