So very, very funny and a good mystery, too!

The Sound of Murder (An Ivy Meadows Mystery) (Volume 2)

By: Cindy Brown

Rating: 5 of 5

thesoundofmurderI don’t know what kind of person can conceive of a mash-up musical play of Cabaret and The Sound of Music, but all I know is she can write a very funny book. That Cindy Brown continued the theme throughout the book literally had me howling with laughter at several points. By the way, this is the first book I have read by this author but it will by no means be the last one. I have already purchased the first book in this series to enjoy but you don’t really need to read it to enjoy this one.

Ivy Meadows is a dinner theater actor who is also a budding assistant private detective. The book starts out with Ivy almost burning her apartment down and then getting the good luck of a house-sitting gig while her flat is being remodeled. When she reports for duty, she finds a suspicious circumstance and a dead body which may (or may not) be a suicide.

Between trying to investigate the possible murder and getting ready for her role, Ivy is running pretty ragged. But not so ragged she can’t make time for her new firefighter boyfriend (who she met in the above said apartment fire – when she was wearing little more than a smile and a towel.)

The play is just so funny and the characters in the book are a hoot. I wish I could go see this play in action but then again, maybe some things are better left unseen (and unheard.) Ivy is just my kind a gal – someone I would be friends with in real life. Funny, feisty, and hey, willing to spend a little time with people more than a tad her senior.

I simply enjoyed this book tremendously, look forward to more by this imaginative author, and recommend it highly.

I received a digital ARC copy of this book from the publisher, Henery Press, via Netgalley.
