Cute Summer Read
Game of Scones (The Little Teashop – Book 1)
By: Samantha Tonge
Rating: 4.5 of 5
“Game of Scones” is a cute and quick summer read. Pippa has come back to the small town of Taxos on the Greek island of Kos to decide what her future life is to be. Once there, she has to choose between the sophisticated life she has enjoyed in London with her Dutch boyfriend Henrik or whether she will take a chance on living her childhood dream of opening a teashop in Taxos. Confusing her even more are her new feelings for her old childhood friend, Niko. As Niko is engaged to someone else, Pippa has to keep her feelings to herself.

Another fine book in the Thunder Point series
One Wish (Thunder Point)
By: Robyn Carr
Rating: 4.5 of 5
“One Wish” is the latest book in Robyn Carr’s Thunder Point series. I have read the entire series – some books are suspenseful, some are funny, while this one is more of a story that slowly builds from its starting point to a fairly predictable end. The two individuals in the story (Grace and Troy) get together fairly quickly and learn how to trust one another and share their pasts, their future plans, and their fears.

A fun romance set in Scotland – Rowena’s Story
Mad, Bad, and Dangerous in Plaid: A Scandalous Highlanders Novel
By: Suzanne Enoch
Rating: 5 of 5
“Mad, Bad, and Dangerous in Plaid” is a rollicking good read by Suzanne Enoch. This is the first book that I have read in the series A Scandalous Highlander and there were enough fun references to the prior books that I am sure to go back to read those, too.
The main characters in the story are so much fun. First there is Winnie (Rowena), the heroine who is a Highland lass trying to turn herself into a prim English lady. Her true nature keeps rearing its head and makes for a lot of laughs as she scrambles to get herself back into “ladylike” character. Lachlan, the hero, who is the man Winnie has adored just about since she was born and who has ignored her all along. He doesn’t much like the “lady” Winnie is becoming but certainly begins to learn an appreciation for the Highland lass she has been all along. There are many other characters who assist along the way and a few who perhaps had their stories told in detail in the first two books in this series – they all work together in this story to make the plot a merry and laughable chase.

A quick and fun read
Need You for Keeps (Heroes of St. Helena)
By: Marina Adair
Rating: 4 of 5
“Need You for Keeps” is the fourth book in the Heroes of St. Helena series by Marina Adair. It is the first in the series that I have read. I generally prefer my romance novels to be a little lighter on the erotic side but Ms. Adair’s flair for dialog, her plot, and her ability to find fun situations for her characters more than won me over.
The story is about Shay Michaels, a young woman on a quest to find forever homes for the stray animals that she has rescued. Along the way, she attracts the attention of Deputy Jonah Baudouin. Jonah is also running for Sheriff, along with the Mayor’s son Warren (who spends more work time campaigning than he does working.)

Another good book in the Blue Heron series
In Your Dreams (The Blue Heron Series Book 4)
By: Kristan Higgins
Rating: 5 of 5
“In Your Dreams” is another great addition to a fun and funny series by Kristan Higgins. In this story, Emmeline (a police officer) and Jack (favored son of the Blue Heron winemakers) get together in usual Blue Heron series fashion. Jack actually does Em a great favor by being her date at her ex-fiance’s wedding – an event that she is dreading but has to go to. Jack is dealing with PTSD after saving the lives of some but not all of the victims of a drunken car accident – everyone thinks he is a hero but he is busy blaming himself for not doing more. Add that Em is dealing with her slightly wacko family and Jack his more than slightly wacko ex-wife and the stage is set for a Kristan Higgins novel.
