The Art of Relaxation Coloring Book

This is a book of over 100 very beautiful designs which include many which are elaborate and flowing. There are also a number of mandala style and paisleys, so it makes for a wonderful opportunity to use a large number of colors, if you so choose.

Many of the designs have extremely small and intricate elements, so I would recommend this to someone who likes that level of detail and has a good eye and a steady hand. This is certainly a coloring book which takes my full attention and thus gives me a relief from troubles that are on my mind. In that sense, it can be a stress-reducer but otherwise, I’m not sure how relaxed I am when I am trying to put small dots of color in various places. When details in any coloring book become too tiny, I take a broad swathe approach and color a larger portion of the area with the same color. I find it works out well for me and I am happy with the result. There are also designs which are more open and easy to color.

The book is very well bound. The cover has lovely touches of color and gold foil but still gives you an opportunity to color on the smooth surface of the front and back of the book, if you desire. The inside of the cover (front and back) has an area for coloring as well. There is an elastic band which is attached to the back of the book which can be used to hold the book together (journal style).

There are over 100 designs printed on both sides of the nice heavy weight non-perforated paper. Some of the single page designs merge into the binding but most do not. There are 18 designs which spread across two pages though most of these can be treated as single page designs, too, as the elements shared are either mirror images or not of consequence. The elements line up beautifully in my copy. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so you should consider cutting the threads rather than the pages if you decide to remove them from the book. The book has rounded edges on the unbound side and is slightly smaller than a regular sheet of paper.

All of my alcohol-based markers bled through immediately. My Stabilo 88’s left a noticeable shadow on the backside of the page. My Staedler triplus fineliner markers did so to a lesser degree. What worked great were my Tombow dual brush markers. When I used the brush end of these, they did not bleed through at all; however, the marker side did bleed through. None of my gel pens had problems and my coloring pencils did well on the surface of this paper.
