Golden Ratio Coloring Book: A Hand-Drawn Adult Coloring Book
By: Rafael Araujo
Rating: 5 of 5
This is an extremely well made coloring book with designs that are based on the principle of the Golden Ratio. The artist, Rafael Araujo, utilizes the skills that he has developed as an architect and and an illustrator and creates his unusual artwork with a pencil, compass, ruler and protractor.
The designs range from bold geometric designs to delicate butterflies and sea shells. It’s really interesting to see the lines which were used to compose the final illustrations. It gives me the opportunity to color the central portion of the design, the framing lines, or both and thus create an artwork that is my own. The artwork is printed on ivory paper which gives the designs a look of old artwork.
This is what I experienced while coloring in this coloring book and testing the paper with my coloring medium.
25 Hand-drawn Designs by Rafael Araujo
Printed on one side of the page
Paper is heavyweight, ivory, rough, and non-perforated
Glue Binding similar to a notepad which makes it very easy to remove a page in whole without lose of any of the design.
Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper
Water-based markers, India ink pens, and gel pens do not bleed through the paper and does not show shadows on the back of the page
Colored pencils do very well with this paper. The texture is rough and grabs pigment well. Both oil-based and wax-based pencils work similarly. Good color lay down, does a good job of layering with the same color or multiple colors and blends well using a pencils style blending stick.
I was provided a sample advance reader copy of this coloring book by the publisher and artist.
