THE BODY IN THE LANDSCAPE

bodylandscape“The Body in the Landscape” is the fifth book in a mystery series about Cherry Tucker. This is the first book in this series that I have read. I often read books out of order in a series to see if a book can stand alone or if it needs to be read in order. For me, there were enough confusing elements in the story – from start to finish, that I must recommend that the series be read in order.

I enjoyed the book, which was quite long. It seemed much longer than the page count on the product page – maybe a third again as long based on the line count on the Kindle version.

While I was and still remain a bit confused about many of the characters in the story (and there were quite a few), the gist of the story is that Cherry is an artist who has been invited on a hunt in order to paint a portrait of the hunter who is able to bring down the mammoth wild boar who is terrorizing people in the area. She seems to attract trouble like she was magnetized for that purpose. She also seems to be inclined to follow up on leads no matter what the consequence might be.

This headlong sprint into danger creates a lot of unusual circumstances and dangerous moments. Cherry is determined to figure out the whodunnit in the death of a local man – a death that everyone else attributes to accident. I wasn’t able to figure out the whodunnit from any clues left.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.
