Well now, that wasn’t good at all

A Glimpse of the Dream

Rating: 1.5 of 5

aglimpseofthedreamIf I had downloaded a sample of this book on my Kindle, I would have thought it was going to be a well-written book under Literature/Fiction and then maybe proceeded to buy it with that in mind. I would have been wrong, really wrong. In my case, I actually had received a digital copy of the entire book gratis , so I felt compelled to finish it.

About a quarter of the way through, the book turned into a fairly graphic sex novel. I don’t mind a few well done sexual encounters in a romance, but this was enough to make my complain out loud to anyone who ventured into my space during the day I was reading this book. I can only think of it as written porn and not soft porn at that.

The sad thing is, that is not the primary reason that I really, really didn’t like the book. What I didn’t like most of all was that it was a book that could not find itself. There was the Literature at the beginning (so well done), the graphic sex which I suppose would be a Romance, then it morphed into a sappy melodramatic story (again, Literature but not well done) and then some sort of mystery where they find out whodunnit regarding a fire that robbed the two main characters of their time together.

I would have given this a one star rating but those first chapters actually did show promise. There were bits and pieces that sprang up throughout the remainder that were also well done. The author can write and write well. Why she isn’t doing this throughout her book is beyond me. I guess that what she writes does sell and she is only after the buck. Truth is that if she would concentrate on writing well, she could potentially write a best-seller. What she has here is simply a half-step above trash and I really wish I could wipe my brain clean and get my four hours of life back again.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, Montlake Romance, via Netgalley.
