Great bread cookbook for those who want to prepare and bake bread on different days

makeaheadbread“Make Ahead Bread” by Donna Currie is a beautifully put together cookbook which focuses on breads which can be prepped the day before baking. This answers a real need for me and, I would guess, a good number of others who simply don’t have the time for both preparation and baking on the same day.

I love the smell and the taste of fresh baked bread. There really isn’t anything else that has that wonderful scent that gets the mouth watering and gives me a sense of well-being as having a fresh yeast bread baking in the oven.

There are 100 recipes in this lovely book – which spans the gamut from yeast breads to pastries. It even has a few lovely recipes for butters and spreads to put on your bread as well as some recipes for what you can make with left over bread. I like that each recipe is broken into the two day format (prep day/bake day), so that you don’t have to try to remember what is done when but simply follow the recipe in front of you. The front of the book does include information about basic ingredients and cookware and the back of the book gives equivalents and resources for the materials in the book.

There are so many recipes that I want to test. My husband also bakes and, upon seeing the digital copy, asked me to order a copy for us to use. The pictures are quite lovely and the cookbook is put together in a fashion that makes sense. I am inclined toward the loaf breads and buns and my husband is ready to try the flatbreads and pastries. Between us, the book should be utilized to its fullest.

I received a temporary digital copy of this book from the publisher, Taunton Press, via Netgalley. I will be purchasing a paper copy to keep in my kitchen.
