jilliancadefakeI generally do not read books with a paranormal vein; however, the blurb on “Jillian Cade (Fake) Paranormal Investigator” caught my eye and my attention and I thought I would give the book a try. I’m glad that I did. It is a funny take on high school age paranormal investigators located in Southern California. The girl who runs this operation doesn’t believe in things paranormal – she is in a tight position and so she has to do what she has to do (investigate the so-called paranormal) in order to make ends meet and keep the electricity on.

Jillian, with the assistance of her cousin, Norbert, is doing just fine when suddenly Sky Ramsey drops into her life and starts complicating her fake investigations with his insistence that the paranormal events are real. No matter how she tries to shake Sky, he always seems to be one step ahead of her.

Now, all of her previously easy cases for her marks, that is, her clients have become more involved and her well-being is being threatened.

The book was funny and the descriptions of SoCal and its inhabitants were dead-on (I lived there for many years.) It was fun to revisit my old stomping grounds through the eyes and works of the author, Jen Klein. While there were references to sexual situations, none were included in the book.

I like the books for young adults and up. The situations were a little more than I think appropriate for younger teens. I enjoyed reading it and will look for new books in the series in the future. I hope the author keeps Jillian as sarcastic and unbelieving as she is in this story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
