An edge of the seat thriller involving K9 rescue

Silent Creed

silentcreed“Silent Creed” is the second book in Alex Kava’s new series featuring Ryder Creed who is a K9 search and rescue dog handler. While I didn’t read the first book in this series, I have read previous books by Ms. Kava which feature a character who is in this book, FBI agent Maggie O’Dell. This series is a definite off-shoot of that series and Maggie is present and a major character in this story.

There is a landslide in North Carolina and it involves a government sanctioned medical research lab. There is a huge rush to get to the site to find out who and what are left after the decimating event. Ryder Creed is called in by a “friend” from his days in Afghanistan. Once he lands and starts his search, the book explodes into action.

I really enjoy action-filled thrillers and this is certainly one of those. I like the characters – who are believable and who have interesting back stories. There are hints of romance but no sexual scenes (at least in this book; however, I don’t know about the two series specifically.)

There is a level of violence, as should be expected in reading this sort of book. There were times when I felt somewhat anxious about the characters and what would happen to them – which makes the reading of the story even more enjoyable. I can guess that things will work out, but the author gives me just enough doubt to make me wonder about it as I read through.

There was a lot of really interesting information about K9 rescue operations. It appears that the author has done her research on the subject and is judicious in including bits and pieces to educate me as a reader so I will understand how things work. This is true of K9 operations both in the military and in the private sector and I really appreciated the information.

I will certainly be looking forward to more books in this series specifically, and from this author generally. I enjoyed reading the book, really had a hard time putting it down before I finished it, and recommend it for an audience of young adult and above who can deal with the violence and the overall subject matter in the story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
