Understanding the Holy Spirit Today: A Biblical Perspective of God’s Power and Action
By: Doris Wynbeek Rikkers
Rating: 4 of 5
This is the first book I have read by Doris Wynbeek Rikkers. I had no idea of her writing style when I received this book, so it was an adventure for me.
In this book, Ms, Rikkers explores how the Holy Spirit worked in times past. She does this by way of Bible stories which are put into modern and paraphrased tellings. The stories are not difficult to follow and the work of the Spirit is well-related to what happened.
She then takes that example and gives a potential example of how the Holy Spirit will work similarly today in the lives of Christians.
The book is main concerned with the Old Testament, when the Holy Spirit came and went. It tells of the actions that this part of the Trinity was involved in with such things as Creation.
Toward the end of the book, the examples turn to the New Testament, starting of course, with Jesus Christ. The examples go on to talk about the work of the Spirit once Jesus had ascended to heaven and sent the Spirit to dwell in the hearts of Christians. With the Spirit living in believers rather than coming and going for certain tasks, it becomes evident that the power of the Holy Spirit is magnified over and over again today.
There is a challenge included to tap into this power and to accomplish the task that Jesus left for his believers. That is, to preach the gospel throughout the world and to love one another. It is a challenge well delivered and one that Christians everywhere should heed.
I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.
