Great prequel to the Max Revere series

Maximum Exposure (Max Revere Novels)

maximumexposureThis is a fairly short novella prequel to the new Allison Brennan series about Max (Maxine) Revere. Max is an investigative reporter who specializes in cold cases.

In “Maximum Exposure”, the story of how Max gets her cable television show is told. With one exception, Ben, the rest of the relationships which are introduced in “Notorious” (the actual first book of the series) are missing. The focus is really on a single case of a missing college student and how Max goes about finding what has actually happened. This, in turn, leads Max away from writing her books about the cold cases to doing a monthly show.

I’ve read “Notorious” and really enjoyed it. I recommend that you start the series with “Maximum Exposure” but if you, like me, have read the other book first, then reading this prequel really helps to explain the character of Max and some of her motivation.

The story is really interesting and, in many ways, quite sad. The missing college student is a bit of a loner and six months after he walked off from his friends in a camping ground, only his mother is taking active interest in finding him. Once she contacts Max, things begin to happen. What is found is surprising and we get to see how Max works to get her information.

I really like this new series and I recommend to mystery fans who like a really strong female lead.
