Funny murder mystery club series

Booked 4 Murder (Sophie Kimball Mystery Book 1)

By: J.C. Eaton

Rating: 5 of 5

This is the start of a series by the wife and husband writing duo known as J.C. Eaton. The series is about Sophie (aka Phee) Kimball, an accountant/bookkeeper who lives in colder climes and who works at a police station.

Phee’s mother, Harriet, lives in Sun City West, Arizona, which is close to Phoenix. Harriet calls Phee to come and investigate a book curse which is claiming the lives of her book club, Booked 4 Murder. The book is the book they are all reading that month and Harriet is hysterical that she will also end up dead.

Phee packs her bags and heads out to help but keeps reminding people she does books, not detective work. That doesn’t seem to stop the members of the book club from expecting Phee to work miracles. After all, doesn’t working in a police department naturally mean that being a detective is second nature?

The story is funny and the characters even more so. While certain points in the plot border on absurd, that is exactly the point. The book is funny because the inhabits of Sun City West are just a shade on the side of crazy. What I took away was to beware of joining a murder mystery book club!

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
