A cozy mystery set within a coffeehouse

Scene of the Grind: A Cozy Mystery (A Killer Coffee Mystery Series Book One)

I’ve read another series of books by Tonya Kappes, so when I saw this one, I decided to take a chance on it. While I really enjoyed the plot and the characters, I felt that some of the personal relationships were a tad rushed toward the end of the book. Especially as this was the start of a series, the building of relationships can develop a little bit slower over two or more books.

Notwithstanding that, I enjoyed the book. It is the story of a lawyer, Roxanne Bloom (Roxy), who comes back to Honey Springs after her divorce from her rather narcissistic husband.

While Honey Springs wasn’t her home town, it was of her favorite Aunt Maxi. Roxy loved the summers she spent in Honey Springs and it seemed the perfect spot to recover and to grow once again. With the help of her Aunt, she opens the Bean Hive, a coffee shop on the boardwalk of the city.

The boardwalk is being revitalized, so it is the perfect time to open. As Roxy becomes acquainted with her new shop neighbors, a murder occurs which seems to implicate her aunt. Roxy decides, with the help of her friends on the boardwalk, to investigate and clear her Aunt and to find the real murderer.

I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series. The author has a real knack for funny situations and dialog as well as interesting whodunnits.
