A great mystery series

The Cold Dish: A Longmire Mystery (Walt Longmire Mysteries Book 1)

I watched the series based on these books years ago. I enjoyed it thoroughly but wanted to eventually read the series itself. Therefore, I started with book 1 and will continue read or listening to the audio version depending on my mood.

I really liked this book. It was better than the series on television, which isn’t unusual. Many of the elements were still the same but the description enhanced and gave depth to the story and to the characters.

Walt Longmire is sheriff of a small town in Wyoming. He is planning on retiring in a few years and helping his second in command, Vic, become sheriff at that time. As Vic is a woman and the town has never had a female sheriff, it will take some time for the town to accept her and vote her in.

Walt is called to the scene of a found body and the elements point to a ritualistic murder and the victim is a young man who was part of a horrible sexual abuse crime a few years before. It’s possible that someone doesn’t like the sentence he received and wants to wreck their own vengeance. And, as we know, it is said that revenge is best served cold, hence the title of the book.
