Agatha Raisin arrives!

The Quiche of Death: The First Agatha Raisin Mystery

By: M. C. Beaton

Rating: 5 of 5

I first read this book years ago and enjoyed it. I then saw the first few seasons of the British television series based on this series of books. I enjoyed that as well.

I recently went back and re-read the book and I’m hooked. I will be going through the series as well as the author’s Hamish Macbeth series as well.

In this story, we are introduced to Agatha Raisin, a not very sympathetic heroine at all. As the book continues, there are glimmers of someone you might want to know but, on the whole, not very much. My experience of Ms. Beaton’s characters is that they are not the best or the sharpest but they make for fun reading.

However, for such a brash sleuth, she is very interesting and her intent on figuring out the whodunnit, makes up for a lot of her issues. She’s certainly not tradition, by a long shot.

The characters in the book somewhat dissimilar to those of the television series, but I was able to enjoy both. Honestly, I prefer the books, either to read or to listen to via audio.
