Non-stop action in this action thriller

Saving Sophie: A Novel

By: Ronald H. Balson

Rating: 5 of 5

savingsophie“Saving Sophie” is a mix of action thriller, political thriller, and legal procedural all mixed into one. Between a familial kidnapping, a huge cash embezzlement and a plot to kill thousands of innocents, the book has it all.

Sophie is the daughter of Jack Sommers, a recent widower who is getting over his wife’s recent and unexpected passing. Sophie is kidnapped by her maternal grandparents who abscond into Hebron where Jack has no chance of recovering her. What would a father do to get his daughter back home again safely? That is the story this novel tells.

What I didn’t realize about the book was that it is a continuation of a series which include Liam and Catherine, a private investigator and a lawyer. These two characters were in Mr. Balson debut book “Once We Were Brothers” and they allude to that story within this one. There are comments which could be construed as spoilers for the first book, which I have not read. You don’t need to read it to enjoy “Saving Sophie” but I am thinking that I will most likely go back and read the first book, too.

The story races from Chicago to Hawaii to Israel with stops in between. There are plots and subplots which layer the story and keep the action non-stop. By the end, the author has woven the entire story into a cohesive book with a satisfying ending. I really enjoyed the book and certainly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via the publisher.
