Slow start but great finish

O Jerusalem: A novel of suspense featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes

By: Laurie R. King

Rating: 4 of 5

I started this series further along and am now going back and reading the earlier books.

First of all, I highly suggest you read this story as number 2 in the series as that is the time period in which it is set. I read the next two books before going back and reading this one once I realized where I had gone wrong.

The story is set in a period of time that is included in the first book and follows Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes through an adventure in the Holy Land.

It has a very slow start and seems more travelogue and brief history than a mystery. However, about midway through, the story picks up and from that point onward, I really enjoyed the book.

I still suggest reading the first part of the book as parts of the end build upon things that unfold. Just be aware that the mystery and adventure are worth slogging through the earlier chapters.
